1.5M Moderna vaccine doses arrive

Sri Lanka received 1.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine donated by the Government of the United States through the COVAX facility of the World Health Organisation (WHO). 

US Ambassador Alina B. Teplitz handed over the consignment to Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi and State Minister of Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation Prof. Channa Jayasumana and Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranathunga on Friday (16). 

Resident Representative of Sri Lanka for the WHO Dr. Alakha Sing, Additional Health Secretary, Dr. Lakshmi Somatunga, Director, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Reed Aeschliman, and Deputy Head of the US Embassy Susan Walke were also present. According to an official at the Health Ministry the 1.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine will be divided into two with 750,000 being given to the public as the first dose and the remaining 750,000 as the second dose.
