At least 20 railway employees including drivers and assistant drivers have tested positive for COVID-19, said Engine Drivers’ Union President Indika Dodangoda.
He said the railway authorities have failed to properly implement the instructions given by the health authorities.
“Drivers, assistant drivers and other employees are getting infected. Their associates are being quarantined. The reason for this is the railway authorities have failed to properly implement the health guidelines given by the health authorities.”
“Besides, trains are also fully packed with passengers and this is causing a real risk,” he said.
Ticketing counters at Maradara station too have been closed after an official tested positive.
