Around 3,000 schools have been selected to re-open during the first stage of reopening schools in the country, the Ministry of Education says.
In a statement, the Ministry said that following several rounds of discussions between the Minister of Education and the Governors of all Provinces, an understanding was reached yesterday (02) with regard to reopening schools.
The schools to re-open during the maiden stage were selected according to several criteria including all grades of schools with less than 100 students and Primary grades (Grades 1-5) of schools with less than 200 students.
Accordingly, a program will be implemented to repair school infrastructure that had fallen into disarray during the long closure.
Speaking at an event in Maharagama yesterday, the Education minister – Dinesh Gunawardena said that they will start to reopen schools from this month under several stages.
