Sri Lanka Police says that four more officials from Sathosa who were yesterday (11) arrested over the recent ‘garlic scam’, will be produced before the Welisara Magistrate’s Court today.
The arrested persons are : Ranasinghe’s Sirinimal Fernando (Senior Manager Supply), Chamila Jayanthi Asurumanne (Deputy General Manager Purchasing), Sameera Eranjith (Supply Manager) and Nuwan Lakmal, (Wholesale Manager of the Welisara Warehouse).
The Senior Manager (Supply) has been arrested on charges of planning the scam to obtain a Rs. 30 profit from the relevant broker.
The Deputy General Manager (Purchasing) has been arrested for the offense for putting her signature to approve the controversial sale of garlic.
The Sameera Eranjith, the supply manager, has been arrested on the charge of signing to approve the release of the garlic stock from the warehouse. The order was signed during night time, reports say.
Nuwan Lakmal, the Wholesale Manager of the Welisara Warehouse had been arrested for releasing the stock of garlic from the Welisara warehouse for this illegal transaction during the night.
It has been revealed that the stock of garlic was suddenly released to the businessman in the night, removed during the night and a bill was issued after tampering with the computer system the next day.
Last week, the CID launched a forensic investigation after seizing 07 computers at the CWE’s Welisara warehouse and CWE headquarters.
