400 filling stations on verge of suspending operations

About 400 filling stations have been forced to suspend their operations due to the new payment method introduced by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), Fuel Station Owners Association President Kumar Rajapakshe said.

Mr. Rajapakshe said that according to the new method, the payment for a fuel stock must be made before 9.30 pm the previous day in order to receive fuel the next day. He said it was a difficult thing to do.

If filling station owners failed to make payments before 9.30 pm, they will not receive fuel the next day.

Therefore, Mr. Rajapakse said about 400 filling stations have to be temporarily closed daily due to the inability to complete the fuel orders as scheduled.
