Over half of the newly elected members of parliament are yet to obtain the pistol provided by the Ministry of Defence for their protection, parliament sources say.
Such MPs are seen from within ranks of both the ruling party and opposition.
There are over 80 newly elected MPs and over 40 MPs have not obtained the weapon.
A senior parliamentary official said that many of the new MPs did not seem to be interested in the weapon.
In contrast, it has been obtained by many who had been MPs for a prolonged period.
A pistol is issued to every MP by the Ministry of Defence for their protection. After the Parliament secretary certifies that he / she is indeed a parliament member, the weapon is issued.
