An advisory board has been appointed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to provide recommendations and rulings pertaining detainees based on provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
The three-member advisory board will be headed by retired Chief Justice Asoka De Silva.
Retired High Court Justice AAR Heiyanthuduwa and former Solicitor General Suhada Gamlath are the remaining members of the advisory board.
Director General (Legal) at the Presidential Secretariat, Harigupta Rohanadeera said the board will be tasked with providing recommendations on taking further legal action, releasing, granting bail and other actions regarding persons held under the PTA.
Harigupta Rohanadeera said detainees were unable to present their case for a lengthy period of time, since no advisory board was functioning.
He said detainees will now be able to present their concerns to the advisory board who will then make recommendations pertaining to their detection.
