The Former President who is also the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party told reporters at the SLFP office premises that the government messed up its plans on adopting organic fertilizer.
“It is a good policy. But, they messed up the plan. I engaged in organic fertilizer cultivation for 17 years,” he said adding that it is important to first introduce a pilot project then launch an islandwide initiative.
He warned that it would take a very long time to rectify these mistakes, and the government must ensure that the farmers are given relief.
“But they are not getting relief. The situation is getting worse and the farmers are left with only poison,” he said.
