Ajith Nivard Cabraal assumes duties as the new Governor of the Central Bank

Sept 15, Colombo: Ajith Nivard Cabraal today assumed duties as the 16th Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka at the Central Bank premises after receiving his letter of appointment from the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (15).
Mr. Cabraal, who is an experienced Chartered Accountant, has also served as a Ministry Secretary as well as the Governor of the Central Bank for nearly 09 years.
The former State Minister of Money & Capital Market and State Enterprise Reforms resigned from his position as a Member of Parliament Monday (13), in order to assume the new post, which was left vacant by the resignation of former governor, Prof. W.D. Lakshman, with effect from Tuesday (14).
