Ancient, gold plated Burmese Tripitakas stolen from Temple!

Around 50 gold plated Burmese Tripitakas that are around 200 years old, have gone missing from the Randombe Sangharaja Maha Viharaya in Ambalangoda.

The Temple has been identified as a place of archaeological value.

The valuable scriptures were placed in an 5ft x 3 ft x 6ft ancient box at the Temple’s upstairs library. The box itself is said to be around 150 years old.

All the monks at the Temple had gone to Anuradhapura on Oct. 04 and upon returning to the Temple 03 days later, had discovered that the gold plated scriptures along with the box, had gone missing.
