The National Fertilizer Secretariat says that 12 companies have been approved to import chemical fertilizers.
Its director told the media that it had given permission for the importation of mixed fertilizers and urea.
He pointed out that this fertilizer can be used for supplementary crops such as vegetables and fruits as well as paddy.
Accordingly, it is expected that it will be possible to purchase chemical fertilizers without any shortage in the open market within the next two months.
It is said that 2000 metric tons of NPK type fertilizer has already been imported to the country.
Based on the approval, 1,500 metric tons of urea will be delivered to the island soon.
Chandana Lokuhewa has further stated that these fertilizers will not be released under the government subsidy scheme.
