Arbitrary actions of government destroying the farming community – Opposition leader

Feb 06, Colombo: Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has said that Sri Lanka, the so-called ‘granary of the East’, recently celebrated its independence with pride and that the Trade Minister of that granary was requesting rice from Pakistan for living. The Leader of the Opposition said that this is the situation in the granary of the East today and that this was the result of this government arbitrarily destroying the farming community.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya Leader was speaking at an event held today (06) in Nedigamvila to provide a water purification system to the people on a request made by the people of the area. In line with the objective of providing clean drinking water to more than 700 families in the area affiliated to the community water project maintained and operated by the Nedigamwila Wijayapura Integrated Navodya Community Based Organization, a Reverse-Osmosis water purification system worth Rs. 2 million sponsored by Nawaloka Group of Companies was provided to the people today. The event was attended by former Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne, former Minister Dilip Wedarachchi, former Provincial Councilor Tennakoon Nilame and a large number of people from the area. The Leader of the Opposition also said that the government does not think twice about getting involved in projects where commissions come in rather than getting involved in projects where people live.
