Asian Development Bank offers US$150 million debt for Covid vaccination


Sri Lanka has entered an agreement with the Asian Development Bank to obtain a debt of US$150 million in a move to purchase vaccines for the Covid immunisation program.

Accordingly, the agreement was signed between Sri Lankan Finance Secretary S.R. Attygalla and Sri Lankan Resident Director of the Asian Development Bank Chen Chen yesterday (09).

The debt is expected to cover the cost of vaccination, installation of vaccine-based monitoring systems, provision of refrigerated transport facilities, and strengthening the clinial waste management, among many other initiations.

The debt amounts to US$84 million under the Asia-Pacific Vaccine Access facility and US$66 million through regular local funds, the Finance Ministry revealed.
