There is no truth to recent claims of the Government approving the importation of chemical fertilizer, President’s Media Division said.
The President’s Media Spokesman, Kingsley Rathnayake assured that no such approval has been granted by the Government and took to Twitter to confirm that the stance taken by the Government will not change.
Issuing a statement on the matter, the Director General of Government Information, Mohan Samaranayake said that “There is no truth in the news circulated across certain websites and social media networks that the new Minister of Finance, Basil Rajapaksha has reversed the decision taken by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksha to ban the import of chemical fertilizer and pesticide with the objective of building a green socio-economy in Sri Lanka.”
“Whatever the circumstances may be the Government does not contemplate reverting the decision to convert to organic agriculture sans chemical fertilizer and Pesticide”, he added.
