Former minister Bandula Gunawardena said that although he was invited to accept the post of finance minister, he had refused it.
He said that the President had invited him to accept this post, but he had decided not to accept it due to the present situation in the country.
Gunawardena noted that it is extremely difficult to work with some officers and under such circumstances even if he accepted the post it would have been extremely difficult to fulfill his responsibilities.
The former minister said that even though the economy has collapsed and this fact was explained to Parliament, no one understood.
He said this addressing the media.
