It is reported that the cabinet reshuffle will begin soon after the finance minister returns to the island after spending the Christmas holidays in the United States with his family.
It is said that the Minister of Finance was scheduled to leave the country at around 3.00 pm US time yesterday (30) to return to Sri Lanka.
It is reported that the President is scheduled to make a cabinet reshuffle before the parliament reopens on January 18, most likely on January 14.
It is said that a change in the ministerial post of Udaya Gammanpila will definitely take place during the cabinet reshuffle this time.
It is said that the Finance Minister had come under fire from the Prime Minister for step-motherly treatment to Namal Rajapaksa and not allocating enough to his ministry during the budget allocations. Therefore, it is said that Namal Rajapaksa is scheduled to be given the Digital Technology Ministry as well in addition to the Sports and Youth Affairs.
Currently he serves as the State Minister for Digital Technology.
The Rajapaksa family is complaining that Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa, who is engaged in a cold war with Namal Rajapaksa over his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election, has slashed more than 60 percent of the money allocated to Namal Rajapaksa’s ministry in the current budget.
Relationship-wise, Basil Rajapaksa is Namal Rajapaksa’s uncle.
