Sources say that Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa, who left for the United States on a private visit, will return to Sri Lanka after a cabinet reshuffle to take place early next year.
It is reported that he had informed President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa of his strong stance in this regard before leaving the island.
He has pointed out that it is very difficult for the government to move forward with the ministers who are obstructing the government’s activities for the sake of cheap popularity, especially when the government has to make unpopular decisions in the face of economic challenges facing the country, instead of accepting its collective responsibility as a government.
It is said that Basil Rajapaksa has emphasized to the President and the Prime Minister that all such ministers should be removed from their posts.
He has also pointed out that there is no point in working with such ministers anymore and has strongly stated that one should be careful of such people at such a crucial moment, the sources further said.
