Cabinet paper to ban 8 more plastic items

A Cabinet paper will be submitted in the future to ban 08 more items that are harmful to the environment, Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera has stated.

His remarks came during the meeting of the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Environment in Parliament on Thursday (August 05).

The Minister noted that this includes polythene bags, plastic hopper holders, plastic dishes, plastic cups and plastic spoons.

Further, the environment minister stated that the law banning lunch sheets will be strictly enforced with effect from Sep. 01.

He instructed the officers to increase the number of raids with regard to the above.
