The CID has launched a top level investigation into the Sathosa Garlic fraud, Minister of Trade, State Minister of Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna stated in Parliament yesterday (4). State Minister Alagiyawanna also requested the Opposition MPs to submit any information available in this regard.
Alagiyawanna said that frauds in these institutions are still going on and that it is a situation where everyone seems to accept such corruption. However, the true aim of the Government is to reduce these frauds, Alagiyawanna also said.
State Minister Alagiyawanna said that former Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) official Thushan Gunawardena must be summoned for the investigation and that the investigation would be completed after obtaining further information. He said there is no conflict between the CAA and Sathosa.
