Lecturers of the Colombo University Medical Faculty state that they are concerned about the appointment of the new Chancellor.
The collective of lecturers say they request the President to re-consider the appointment.
Issuing a statement, the collective notes that the University of Colombo is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Sri Lanka and it is the responsibility of all to safeguard its dignity.
Recently, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero as the Chancellor of the university.
Earlier, the Government Medical Officers’ Association had also expressed their protest against the appointment, in a letter addressed to the President.
