Development of B640 road from Nainamadama to Chilaw via Iranawila expedited

Sept 16, Colombo: Nimal Lanza, Minister of State for Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure said the development work on the B640 road from Nainamadama to Chilaw via Iranawila, which runs parallel to the coastal border, has been expedited to ease traffic congestion in Wennappuwa, Marawila, Mahawewa, Madampe and Chilaw on the Colombo-Puttalam main road.
The 32 km long road is being widened under two lanes and 18 km of the road has already been completed. The work on a 100 meter long bridge in the Barudelpola area on the road has been completely finished.
Also, an 80 meter long bridge in the Thoduwawa area has been completely renovated.
In addition to resolving traffic congestion, the speedy completion of development work on this road will also help in the development of the tourism industry and the fishing industry in the area.
In order to promote the tourism industry, it is planned to plant endemic plants on both sides of the road to enhance the attraction of the area.
