DGHS told to clear the backlog at morgues

Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella has informed the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) to identify the legal procedure to deal with unclaimed bodies of individuals who succumbed to the novel coronavirus, and proceed to clear them from hospitals that have  exceeded storage capacity.

The Health Ministry said Minister Rambukwella made the revelation while speaking to the Public Services United Nurses Union.

Minister Rambukwella informed health sector officials to take all possible steps to prevent the pileup of bodies within freezers and storage units within hospitals.

The Health Minister also called on officials to see to the repairs of freezers and facilities that are used for postmortem within hospitals that deal with coronavirus infected persons.
