He said the President was briefed on the injustices done to the SLFP representatives of the local government bodies and the organizers of the constituencies by some government ministers and MPs.

“We, as a party, especially at the local level made a huge commitment to elect the President and form this government, but after that the government has disregarded the local representatives, who helped to strengthen the government and is continuing to sideline the SLFP members, especially the local government representatives,” State Minister said.

The party has questioned the President on how the government can include SLFP organizers, district organizers, divisional councilors, divisional representatives as well as representatives of affiliated organizations in government-implemented programs.

“We have also discussed with the President on amendments to the new constitution and the electoral system, teacher salary anomalies, Educational Reform Programs, and the current issues regarding fertilizers and organic fertilizers,” Jayasekara said.

Many in the political circle were watching to see if the SLFP would continue to support the government and the meeting between the President and the SLFP parliamentary group has affirmed that the party led by former president Maithripala Sirisena will resolve the issues and continue to support the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) led government.

Meanwhile, at a media briefing convened by the SLPP today, its General Secretary MP Sagara Kariyawasam expressed his views regarding the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

He said that a small minority of SLFP MPs are complaining that they are being disregarded and given some menial posts and they are still in the same old mindset thinking that SLFP was a major party.

“In previous alliances SLFP was the major party and had more power. But in this government the major party of the alliance is SLPP. Although some of the SLFP members with political experience have understood this reality but few members have failed to grasp it,” SLPP General Secretary said.
