* Driver fined Rs 200,000 for harassing a wild elephant

The fine was imposed on a cab driver named Rasika Gimhan Dhananjaya Rajasinghe. Wildlife officials had filed a case against him in the Kekirawa Magistrate’s Court on December 25, 2021, alleging that the suspect had committed the offense on the Trincomalee-Habarana main road, which is designated as a no-fly zone for wildlife under the Fauna and Flora Ordinance. At the Minneriya National Park, on the advice of Mr. Pradeep, the park ranger, Wildlife Conservation W.W. M. L.K. Mr. Wasala appeared before the court on behalf of the complainant. <!—->
