A powerful State Minister entered the Welikada Prison premises forcibly while intoxicated, stating that his friends wanted to see the gallows, reported The Morning newspaper.
The newspaper reports that the State Minister’s friends were drunk as well and most of them were dressed in shorts, with the state minister brandishing a pistol.
According to the newspaper, some of them were intoxicated to the point where they passed out on the ground.
Prison officials who attempted to stop this crowd were verbally abused by them, the report added.
However, when inquired, Commissioner of Prisons and its spokesman Chandana Ekanayake denied any knowledge of such an incident.
