Duminda Silva given chairmanship of National Housing Development Authority

July 18, Colombo: President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed former MP Duminda Silva, who was released from death row under a presidential pardon last month, as the chairman of the National Housing Development Authority.
It has been reported that a letter signed by Secretary to the President PB Jayasundara has been sent to the Secretary to the State Ministry of Rural Housing, Construction and Building Materials Industrial Promotion informing that the President has approved the appointment of Mr. Silva.
“Duminda Silva, a resident of 40/8, Perera Mawatha, Pelawatta, Battaramulla, has been approved by His Excellency the President as the Chairman of the National Housing Development Authority,” the letter purported to be from the Secretary to the President noted.
Duminda Silva, who was sentenced to death for the murder of former MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, was released on 24 June 2021 under a presidential pardon.
Following his release Duminda Silva met with the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa earlier this month.
