Education Ministry plans to establish 2,000 online education centres

Steps are being taken to establish 2,096 centres islandwide to facilitate online education for students that do not have the required facilities.

Minister of Education Professor G. L. Peiris said it is unfair for teachers to resort to measures that ruin future of innocent children by disrupting their education, in a bid to win their demands that children have no stake in.

These issues instead need to be resolved through discussions, he said.

He said schools should be reopened in accordance with health guidelines as soon as possible after the vaccination of principals, teachers, and non-academic staff.

In the meantime, 2,096 resource centres will be opened throughout the country to address problems pertaining to remote/ online access to education.

The resource centres are selected jointly by the Provincial Directors of Education and government representatives and facilities including tablets and laptops are available at the centers.
