Minister of Energy – Udaya Gammanpila says he doesn’t know for how long discussions were held for the controversial LNG deal signed between the Sri Lankan government and an US company.
Speaking at a media briefing held today (29), Gammanpila said that there was absolutely no Energy Ministry representation at any of the committees to reach this deal.
The minister pointed out that the pressing issue is not transferring 40% of Yugadanavi Power Plant’s shares to New Fortress Energy, but the supply of gas in Sri Lanka being awarded to a US firm for a period of five years.
“This is an issue regarding energy security,” he noted.
The minister said that he will never sign an agreement which is unfavourable to the country.
The minister also said that their behaviour within the government is similar to a dog in a home.
“A dog will bark if the home faces any danger. So if the dog is chased away for barking, instead of identifying the danger, it will be the end of the residents,” he said.
