* EU- South Asia Aviation Partnership Project II kicks off

Sept 25, Colombo: The second phase of the EU- South Asia Aviation Partnership Project II (EU-SA APP II) launched its Kick-Off meeting on 24th September 2021 with the participation of the heads of Aviation Authorities of all seven States in the South Asian Region.
The meeting was attended by Luc Tytgat, Strategy & Safety Management Director, European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), Carlos Menendez the Operations Manager of EU SA APP II & Mahmood Razee the Director of the project.
Mahmood Razee represented EASA in Sri Lanka for the meeting.
Meeting was attended by Upul Dharmadasa Chairman Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Capt Themiya Abeywickrema, DGCA, Amitha weerasuriya Vice Chairman, P A Jayakantha Additional Director General, Rayhan Wanniappa, Director Air Transport Regulations & Ms. Romany Lawrence- Hewa, Project Office Coordinator.
The EU-SA APP II project aims at strengthening institutional relations and cooperation between the EU and the aviation authorities of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, while supporting the implementation of aviation agreements and the sharing of best practices to promote EU standards.
One objective is also to raise awareness for environmental protection efforts to encourage climate action in the region. At the same time the project will facilitate a more secure, compatible and less restricted access for the European industry to the regional markets through promoting industrial exchanges to support EU competitiveness in those markets.
