* Extraordinary gazette notification issued imposing taxes on several commodities

Aug 14, Colombo: Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Finance has issued an Extraordinary Gazette Notification imposing a Special Commodity Levy on several items.
Accordingly, a Special Commodity Levy has been imposed on several items with effect from August 12, 2021.
A tax of Rs. 100 per kilogram is applied to sprats and dried fish, Rs. 880 per kilogram on butter and dairy spreads.
Following is the complete list of items and their tax rates.
The gazette notification makes an order to waive-off balance amount after collecting Rs. 10 per kg from the applicable Special Commodity Levy of Rs. 40 per kg on importation of Salt (Sodium Chloride BP), by any pharmaceuticals manufacturing enterprises, registered with the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) for the purpose of manufacturing pharmaceuticals, not for commercial purpose, on the recommendation of the Secretary, State Ministry in charge of subject of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals.
This Order will be valid for a period of one year commencing from August 12, 2021.
