First consignment of nano fertilizers from India arrives

Oct 20, Colombo: The first consignment of eco-friendly nano nitrogen liquid fertilizer required for paddy cultivation, other field crops, vegetables and fruits for the Maha season arrived from India during early hours today (20th October 2021).
SriLankan Airlines flight UL-1156 carrying the fertilizer arrived at the airport at 00.25 am today.
Minister Bandula Gunawardena, State Ministers Shasheendra Rajapaksa and D.V. Chanaka and a group of officials received the fertilizer at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo.
The stock of liquid fertilizer will be distributed to farmers in Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee and other districts through Agrarian Development Centers where paddy cultivation has already commenced, said Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture Prof. Udith K. Jayasinghe.
One of the highly recognized eco-friendly fertilizers in the world, this liquid fertilizer is manufactured in such a way that the plant can efficiently obtain the nitrogen nutrients it needs.
Produced by IFFCO in India using nanotechnology, the liquid fertilizers contain nitrogen, which is directly absorbed by the leaves, according to the Director General of Agriculture, Dr. S.H.S. Ajantha de Silva.
Out of the 3.1 million liters of liquid nitrogen fertilizer ordered by Sri Lanka, 500,000 liters will be delivered to Sri Lanka this week alone.
Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture Senior Professor Udith K. Jayasinghe, Chairman, Commercial Fertilizer Company, Colombo, Methsiri Gunawardena, General Manager, Commercial Fertilizer, Colombo, Dr. Jayantha Weeraratne, Chairman, Airport and Aviation, Retired Major General GA Chandrasiri and others were present.
