Food at CNS, inedible!

Resident patients and staff of the Colombo National Hospital have complained about the quality of food they have been receiving.

According to internal sources, fish and meat has been excluded from the diet of inpatients and junior staff for several weeks due to the ongoing economic crisis.

Due to the shortage of milk powder and price hikes, the hospital has also stopped giving patients milk tea for several months now, with only one plain tea given per day, a junior staff member has stated.

Staff say that due to the inedible watery quality of the food, many are disliking the meals and patients also say that this leads to a large amount of food going to waste.

They also point out that families of around 80% of in-patients at the hospital are unable to visit the hospital regularly due to the prevailing economic and fuel crisis, and providing inedible food in this backdrop have really inconvenienced patients, reports say.

Also, special diets provided to certain patients have also been stopped, hospital staff say.

Director of the Hospital – Dr. W.K. Wickramasinghe has also admitted that the meals might be incomplete in certain ways and they were trying to minimise the shortages.
