Fuel prices increased as Nigeria refuses fuel on credit!

Sri Lanka’s talks with Nigeria yesterday (20) to obtain crude oil on long-term loan had reportedly failed.

Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila had tweeted that he had met with Nigerian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Ahmed Sule, but did not mention the relevant discussions.

However, at a press conference yesterday morning, Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila had said that as it was not possible to purchase crude oil outright in the current situation but measures would be taken to obtain crude oil on credit basis.

He said that 90 days prior notice should be given to obtain the fuel being used in Sri Lanka, but attempts are being made to obtain alternative fuel. However, Minister Gammanpila noted that in the event crude oil cannot be obtained, the oil refinery would have to be closed for a period of 20 days from January 03rd to the 23rd.
