Fuel prices need to be increased – Gammanpila

Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila says that a situation has arisen where fuel prices have to be increased once again.

He said this while speaking to the media following a function in Hanwella.

Gammanpila added that the last increase in fuel prices in Sri Lanka was based on world market prices in May and that the world market has shown a 24% increase in fuel prices since then.

By not increasing fuel prices, those costs will be borne by the people who do not use vehicles and it is an injustice to them, he noted.

Adding that with the increase in fuel prices in the World Market, if the Treasury does not provide relief, increasing fuel prices is inevitable, but he said that so far no decision has been taken to increase fuel prices.
