The Negombo Police have launched an investigation to arrest a young woman who is alleged to have drugged a Buddhist monk who is an advisor to Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and a driver before robbing Rs.7.2 million.
A nephew of the monk had arrived from South Korea on the 16th.
When he arrived at the airport, a young woman who befriended him through Facebook had also come to the airport to see him.
Meanwhile, the young man had been arrested at the arrival terminal of the airport based on a warrant issued against him for not appearing in court over a case. He was produced in the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.
Before he was taken into custody, the man had handed over Rs. 7.2 million to the monk for safekeeping.
The monk had left in the vehicle and had given a ride to the girl who arrived at the airport. On the way back, the girl had given two drinks to the van driver and the monk who later told the police that he felt hazy after having the drink.
However, the monk told the police that the haziness disappeared after a while and the girl was dropped off at the Dematagoda area.
Later, it was found that the money given to him by the nephew had also gone.
The Negombo Police are investigating to arrest the girl.
