The Kothalawala University Act consists of serious defects that could negatively affect the country’s education, warned the Government Medical Officers’ Association speaking to media today (10).
Union Executive Committee member Dr. Prasad Kolambage stated that the recommendations tabled before the government in this regard are currently being implemented.
The government has already been informed of the defects the Act comes with, he noted.
“When starting a university, the supervision of the affiliated institutions would be essential. For example, if it is a medical college, the approval and the supervison of the Sri Lanka Medical Council is required. On the other hand, the approval and the supervision of the University Grants Commission would be necessary. There are several serious issues in this Act. It can have a very negative impact on the field of education and the way forward in education. Therefore, we have informed the government in this regard,” he said.
