The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to grant a special allowance of Rs. 5,000 per month to all government employees.
Making the announcement today (03), Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa said this special allowance will be granted starting from Jan. 2022.
He stated that government pensioners will also receive a special monthly allowance of Rs. 5,000 while Samurdhi beneficiaries will be provided an additional Rs. 1,000 per month from Jan. 2022.
Mr. Rajapaksa made these announcements during a press briefing held this evening, following the conclusion of today’s Cabinet meeting.
The Finance Minister also announced that all essential food items and medicinal drugs will be exempted from all taxes.
In addition, every estate sector family will be given 15 kg of wheat flour at Rs. 80/- per kilogram, he added.
