Green light for Basil’s request to allow trishaws to function during curfew

The request was made by Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa at a meeting of the Covid-19 Task Force chaired by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

This includes the opening up of revenue-earning state-owned enterprises, permission to bring in construction workers, commence functioning of SMEs in rural areas and permission to operate trishaws.

The President had given the green light for this request, stating that police and health services should closely monitor these. Meanwhile, minister of Trade – Bandula Gunawardena has been tasked with further strengthening the program providing essential goods to all parts of the country.

The President has also instructed the IGP to obtain a daily report from the police stations on issues faced in each and every area and refer them to the relevant government agencies. He also informed the IGP to stop unnecessary travel on the roads.
