Dr. Saranga Alahapperuma, Chairman of the Coconut Research Board states that if consumed in the correct manner, only half a coconut is sufficient per house per day.
He also says that 30% of the domestic coconut consumption in the country is wasted.
He says that 70 percent of the annual coconut harvest in the country is used for domestic consumption.
He said that although 20-30% of coconut milk can be obtained by squeezing by hand, 50% of coconut milk can be obtained by grinding it in a mortar or pestle.
