It is difficult to maintain the train service due to COVID infection to 12 of the railway department staff, including station masters and junior staff members of the Railway Control Office, the Sri Lanka Station Masters’ Union (SLSMU) said.
They said, due to COVID infection, several close contacts of the related station masters and staffers have been sent to quarantine.
Accordingly, issues have been created at Kalutara, Induruwa and Kolonnawa railway stations due to COVID infections of employees, they said.
“Authorities deliberately delayed the delivery of hygienic apparatus to railway workers in the wake of the COVID-19 epidemic. But the railway authorities who have failed to provide quality protective hygienic materials to the employees who are using all the available hygienic resources while they are working, “the SLSMU said.
In such a situation, the provision of public transport services has reached a critical juncture in the face of the day-to-day infection of railway employees, the SLSMU added.
