* Health Minister says ready to open the country on October 01 with restrictions

Sept 25, Colombo: Health Minister Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella says that the country is expected to be opened on the 1st of next month with certain restrictions.

However, decisions regarding the opening of the country can be taken until the 30th of this month, the Minister added while participating in an observation tour of the Nawalapitiya District General Hospital.

During the visit, the Minister paid close attention to the shortcomings of the hospital, which was a base hospital and became a district general hospital in 2004.

The process of taking over the Nawalapitiya District General Hospital, which is currently under the Central Provincial Council, to the Central Government is nearing completion and it will be expedited accordingly.

Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Minister of Agriculture, a group of political representatives and Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Services were also present at the occasion.

The Minister of Health said with the opening of the country he calls on the people to follow the health guidelines properly. He added that by doing so, the Covid can be controlled successfully winning the battle against the pandemic.

The Minister of Health emphasized that the citizens should properly fulfill their duties and responsibilities while the health sector provides maximum services to control Covid. He said that he expects this to be done very carefully and deliberately and urges the public to do so.

Speaking further Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella said Covid is now very successfully under control and the current situation has changed for the better to some extent.

“We are among the top 10 countries in the world in terms of providing both doses of vaccine in the inoculation of over age of 30 population. Vaccination of children between the ages of 12-19 with various complications commenced yesterday focusing on the Kurunegala and Anuradhapura districts where the majority of those children are. Currently, there is a decrease in the number of cases and deaths due to Covid infections,” the Health Minister said.
