* Health Ministry launches program to look into shortcomings in hospitals at district level

Dec 20, Colombo: The Ministry of Health has initiated a program to look into the shortcomings of hospitals at the district level with the aim of maintaining a more formal and well-equipped patient care service.
This program is being implemented on the instructions of the Minister of Health Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella.
Under the initiative, the shortcomings of the District General Hospital and the Kantale Base Hospital established in the Trincomalee District of the Eastern Province were examined recently under the leadership of the Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Dr. Major General Sanjeewa Munasinghe.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Provincial Council held a progress review meeting of 10 hospitals operating in the Trincomalee District at the office of the Eastern Provincial Director of Health Services.
Secretary to the Ministry of Health said the Ministry of Health commends the highest level of care provided by the Health Services of the Eastern Province to the quarantined persons as well as the infected patients from other areas especially during the Covid epidemic.
Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Services, Dr. Lal Panapitiya, Deputy Director General of Health Services and Heads of Health Services of the Eastern Province were also present.
