IFRC Secretary General calls on the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa

Feb 09, Colombo: The Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Jagan Chapagain and delegation have called on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees yesterday (08).

The largest humanitarian network in the world, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) operates in 192 countries.
Meeting with the Secretary General, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for the humanitarian assistance provided through the Sri Lanka Red Cross (SLRC) for every disaster faced by the people of Sri Lanka, including the Covid epidemic.
Pointing out that the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society is a very active and transparent member among its member countries around the world, the Secretary General expressed confidence that priority will be given to providing benefits to Lankan citizens during future relief efforts.
The two parties also agreed to strengthen the legal base of Sri Lanka Red Cross and partnership on climate action and community health. The Premier emphasized that the Government will fully support the role played by the President of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, Jagath Abeysinghe, in providing relief to the people.
