Illegal air cargo will be confiscated – Customs

According to the regulations published under the Customs Ordinance Act and the Import and Export (Control) Act, some air passengers are flouting the regulations and bringing gold, cigarettes, medicines, and ornamental plants into the country, and the Sri Lankan Customs has informed passengers that such goods imported in violation of this Act would be confiscated or fined from now on.

Director General of Customs, P.B.S.C. Nonis told the media that it has been observed recently that there has been an increase in the importation of restricted goods through Unaccompanied Passenger Baggage (UPB) sent by air and various agencies that transport passenger’s goods.
