Indian Foreign Secretary arrives in Sri Lanka on an official visit

Oct 03, Colombo: Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla arrived in Sri Lanka last night on a four-day official visit at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Secretary to the Foreign Ministry.
Several Sri Lankan and Indian officials including Admiral Jayanath Colombage and Indian High Commissioner in Colombo Gopal Baglay arrived at the Katunayake International Airport to welcome the Indian Foreign Secretary.
Foreign Secretary Shringla began his visit by visiting Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy today. He was received warmly by Diyawadana Nilame of the temple, the High Commission said.
The Indian top official will stay in Sri Lanka until the 5th of this month and will hold discussions with President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
The purpose of the visit is to enhance cooperation between the two countries. He is also scheduled to visit several parts of the country, according to the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka.
Harsh Vardhan Shringla, who has 37 years of experience in the Indian Foreign Service, has also served as India’s Ambassador and High Commissioner to the United States, Bangladesh and Thailand.
