Indian Foreign Secretary visits Trincomalee oil tank farm, Jaffna

Oct 03, Colombo: Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla who is on a four-day official visit to Sri Lanka, visited the Trincomalee Oil Tank Complex today (03).
According to the Indian High Commission, the .Lanka IOC (LIOC), Indian Oil’s subsidiary in Sri Lanka, briefed Foreign Secretary Shringla about the developments undertaken at the Lower Tank Farms and the possibilities for further strengthening India-Sri Lanka energy partnership to enhance Sri Lanka’s energy security.
The tank farm in 850 acres of land has 99 tanks each with the capacity to hold 12,100 metric tons of oil. Indian Oil Corporation subsidiary Lanka IOC, engaged in bunkering operations, runs 15 out of the 99 storage tanks in the lower oil tank farm in Trincomalee.
Earlier, this year, the Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila said the Trincomalee oil tank farm will be developed jointly by Sri Lanka and India for the mutual benefit of both countries.
Meanwhile, the launch of the new product ‘Servo Pride ALT 15W- 40’ by Lanka IOC was also held under the patronage of the Indian Foreign Secretary on the same day.
The Indian Foreign Secretary said that he was happy to be a part of this event.
“Foreign Secretary Harsh V Shringla was happy to be with LIOC for the launch of LIOC’s new product – ‘Servo Pride ALT 15W-40’ during the visit,” the Indian High Commission said in a Tweet.
Earlier in the day, Indian Foreign Secretary visited the temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy to pay his respect and to obtain blessings.
The Indian Official also visited the iconic Jaffna Cultural Centre built with Indian grant assistance.
“The iconic, state of the art cultural center will help people of Northern Province reconnect with their roots and in nurturing our shared cultural heritage,” the Indian High Commission tweeted.
