Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake’s belongings will have to be evicted from the MP’s official quarters in Madiwela next week, according to parliamentary sources.
Earlier, his lawyer had requested Lohan Ratwatte – the Minister of Prison Management and Rehabilitation, to allow Ramanayake’s belongings to be kept in his MP’s quarters until a house could be found.
Accordingly, Mr. Ratwatte had discussed with Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and arranged for a three month grace period on sympathetic grounds.
However, the three month grace period will end on July 20th, sources add.
Meanwhile, the ‘Lankadeepa’ newspaper has quoted an official of the Parliamentary Services Division as saying that a decision will be taken in the coming days after taking up the matter with the Speaker.
He has also added that an issue does persist with giving houses to new MPs.
