The Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday granted permission to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to record statements from the journalists who covered a news briefing conducted by State Minister Sanath Nishantha where he allegedly made remarks insulting the court.
Accordingly, Magistrate Thilina Gamage gave permission to record statements from journalists of five television networks.
The CID is conducting this investigation into the remarks made by Mr. Nishantha criticizing the way the Magistrates granted bail to the activists involved in the ‘Aragalaya’ in alleged contempt of court. He made these remarks during a press conference held at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) headquarters on August 23.
