Discussions are underway to appoint Jayantha Ketagoda to the MP seat which will fall vacant if State minister – Ajith Nivard Cabraal should resign.
It is said that Cabraal is to resign to become the next governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), a post he had previously held several years before.
It is said that the present governor of the CBSL – Prof. W.D. Lakshman, is to be appointed to a highly placed post in the IMF.
Former MP Ketagoda resigned from his parliamentarian seat in order to pave way for Basil Rajapaksa to enter parliament. Media reports later stated that although he was offered the position of Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Australia as well as the chairman post of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation, he had declined to accept either position.
