President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has issued a statement condemning the brutal assassination of Priyantha Kumara, a Sri Lankan professional who worked in a factory in Pakistan.
“That barbaric incident is a great shock to Sri Lankans as well as to all those in the world who value humanity,” it said.
The statement further reads;
“I am deeply saddened by the brutal murder of Priyantha Kumara, a Sri Lankan professional who worked in a factory in Pakistan. That barbaric incident is a great shock to Sri Lankans as well as to all those in the world who value humanity.
Sri Lanka as a close friend of Pakistan appreciates the steps taken by the Government of Pakistan, led by Prime Minister Imran Khan, to bring to justice immediately after this brutal assassination, and the Government of Sri Lanka and the people as a whole look forward to the steps taken by the Government of Pakistan in this regard.
I also urge the Government of Pakistan to ensure the safety of other Sri Lankans living in Pakistan.
No sooner we heard of the incident, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and I instructed the Foreign Ministry and the Sri Lankan High Commission in Pakistan to take immediate action on the incident.
Extremist activities of any nature are deeply confusing to society. Therefore, such incidents further confirm that the world must act with the same objective against extremism.
The family of Priyantha Kumara is deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident and I, the Government and the entire Sri Lankan people assure them that we are with them.”
